Claudia Sotomayor

Engineer & Operations Leader

Profile

Head of Operations at a bitcoin exchange serving Mexico and El Salvador, where I lead compliance, KYC/AML and regulatory reporting. Before that, 10+ years of systems engineering in regulated, audit-heavy environments: U.S. Navy weapons testing, SpaceX and semiconductors. I turn complex requirements, technical or regulatory, into repeatable processes with clear controls, and I use AI to move faster while keeping people in charge of the judgment calls.

Experience

Head of Operations

Mar 2026 – Present
Aureo, bitcoin exchange serving Mexico and El SalvadorRemote

Own compliance, finance, legal and customer operations.

  • Lead KYC and enhanced due diligence, from identity verification and fraud review to high-risk customers.
  • Run AML monitoring and regular reporting to financial intelligence units in two jurisdictions.
  • Built the case-tracking system and procedures that make every compliance decision auditable.
  • Automated recurring regulatory reports with AI, keeping a person in charge of every identity decision.

Project Manager & Solutions Architect

2023 – 2024
Walker Telecomm, defense contractor, NAWC China Lake RangeMiami, FL
  • Designed command-and-control centers for a $4B+ Major Range and Test Facility Base earthquake-recovery program.
  • Tracked 800+ requirements, budget and schedule; briefed the architecture to government stakeholders in design reviews.

Product Manager

Jan 2022 – Jul 2022
Compass Mining, bitcoin miningRemote
  • Owned every phase of new product introduction: initial strategy, product concepts, market-needs analysis, requirements and post-launch support.
  • Ran Agile software development through epics and user-story mapping.
  • Defined what success looks like for each launch in product requirements documents (PRDs) and trained the Sales and Support teams on new products.
  • Coordinated work across teams to take ideas from 0 to 1.
  • Tracked post-launch success and user experience through website metrics, user interviews and support tickets, and iterated on the product.

Principal Video Systems Engineer

2015 – 2023
U.S. Navy, Weapon Systems Test & Evaluation, Communications BranchPoint Mugu, CA
  • Ran and designed video communications infrastructure for three command centers and their datacenter supporting live weapons testing on the Sea Range.
  • Led a $1.4M upgrade from 30-year-old analog video to a low-latency networked system with zero mission downtime.
  • Wrote requirements, test plans and CONOPS; managed procurement and earned value. Held a DoD security clearance.

Failure Analysis Engineer II

May 2014 – Mar 2015
Semtech Corporation, root-cause failure analysis of integrated circuitsCamarillo, CA
  • Diagnosed failure mechanisms in integrated circuits and reported findings to customers in formal reports.
  • Ran failure analysis with a range of characterization and troubleshooting methods: ATE, X-ray, chemical etching, infrared, elemental analysis (EDS), electron microscopes and liquid-crystal hot-spot detection.
  • Worked with outside FA labs on special projects.
  • Reported findings to customers and internal stakeholders to eliminate failures and improve yield.

Materials Engineer

May 2013 – Dec 2013
SpaceX, material selection and failure analysis for avionicsHawthorne, CA
  • Ran material selection and failure analysis on electronic piece parts and electromechanical assemblies, giving data and solutions to avionics development, production and manufacturing.
  • Worked across teams to put holistic fixes in place.
  • Ran in-depth qualification experiments and destructive physical analysis to find the root cause of failures in flight termination system (FTS) avionics assemblies; the results helped scale up production.
  • Gathered and interpreted qualification data with X-ray, Vickers hardness, DSC, FTIR and SEM.
  • Developed a thermal profile for circuit-board rework that improved the quality and consistency of reworked jobs.
  • Wrote detailed reports and SOPs documenting experiment results, processes and instruments.

Integrated Circuit Failure Analysis Co-Op

Jan 2012 – Aug 2012
Micron Technology, electron microscopy and failure analysis of integrated circuitsManassas, VA
  • Prepared, characterized and analyzed integrated circuits with electron microscopy and elemental analysis (EELS and EDS) to monitor new manufacturing processes and catch defects; the results supported manufacturing and prevented production delays.
  • Worked with the yield-enhancement and process-engineering groups to correct manufacturing defects.
  • Prepared microscope specimens by chemical etching and mechanical polishing.
  • Ran focused ion beams (FIB) for in-situ lift-outs of nanoscale defects and imaged them with scanning and transmission electron microscopes (SEM and TEM); troubleshot the equipment when it malfunctioned.
  • Ran a comparative study of iridium vs. platinum sputter coaters to pick the best value for a new equipment purchase.
